29th EuroCHRIE Annual Conference
www.eurochrie2011.hr
Dubrovnik, Croatia
19th-22nd October 2011
EuroCHRIE 2011 invites hospitality and tourism educators, students, and professionals to submit papers for the 2011 EuroCHRIE Congress to be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia 19th-22nd October 2011. Qualified individuals are also invited to be reviewers for any of the three tracks.
Tracks
EuroCHRIE has three tracks: full papers, working papers, and poster sessions.
Full paper sessions should be research-based (conceptual or empirical) and meet the general standards of research journals in the hospitality and tourism field. A 20 minute presentation will be scheduled for full paper sessions. Full papers will automatically be entered into the competition for the Best Paper designation.
Working paper sessions should reflect current practice, preliminary research, or interesting ideas in the hospitality and tourism industry or hospitality and tourism education. Case studies are especially welcomed. A 10 minute presentation will be scheduled for working paper sessions.
Poster sessions should reflect in-progress projects or projects of a smaller scope in hospitality and tourism. Traditionally, poster sessions are less formal and invite greater interaction than either full papers or working paper sessions.
Themes
The overall theme for EuroCHRIE 2011 is Tourism and Hospitality: Drivers of Transition. The theme is a framework to show how the hospitality and tourism industry have acted, or continue to act, as an economic and societal driver for changes which have occurred or are occurring in transitional regions of the world. The emphasis is on the demonstrated and potential impact that the tourism and hospitality industry can make.
There are six major subthemes, each with a large number of topics. Themes and topics are not meant to be restrictive, but to show how inclusive the general theme can be. (A complete list of subthemes and topics is at the end of this call for papers.) The major subthemes are:
• Hospitality and Tourism in Transitional Countries: Opportunities, Best Practices, and Challenges
• Hospitality and Tourism Education in Transitional Countries
• Alternatives to "Mass" Tourism in Transitional Countries
• Managing Culture and Leveraging Culture in Hospitality and Tourism
• Developing and Managing Human Resources in Transitional Countries
• Recent Developments in Hospitality and Tourism
Review Process and Timetable
The review process has four stages (dates noted):
• submission of a 500-word abstract (by 17 January 2011)
• review of the abstract (by 23 February 2011)
• if the abstract is accepted, submission of the complete paper (by 22 April 2011)
• review of the complete paper with suggested revisions (by 24 June 2011)
• submission of final, revised paper with an abstract of no more than 120 words (by 26 August 2011)
Specifications for Preliminary Abstracts
The abstract is the key to gaining preliminary acceptance, but does not guarantee that the full paper will be accepted. The connection between the abstract and the theme and any subthemes should be made clear. The abstract should show evidence of careful and logical thought, the relative importance of the session, and relationship to current developments in the field of tourism and hospitality.
Technical specifications are:
• Electronic submissions only
• A maximum length of 500 words
• Written in English free from grammar and spelling errors
• The abstract should include Title, Name(s) of author(s), Affiliations and E-mail addresses.
Usually, however, only the lead author (first name) will be contacted
• Word 6.0 or higher (.doc or .docx)
• Single space within a paragraph; double space between paragraphs; text aligned flush left
• Page margins of 1 inch, (2.54 cm) on all sides
• Use the lead author's name and a four-digit number of your choice as the file name (e.g., Schmidt 4012)
