7th APacCHRIE Conference

Singapore! Exciting bright nightlights at Clarke Quay, exotic multicultural society living in perfect harmony, shopping galore on Orchard Road and ‘die die must-try’ chili crab. Still not enough? The 7th APacCHRIE Organizing Committee is proud to announce that the conference will be held for the first time in Singapore from the 28th to the 31st of May 2009!

What makes the 7th APacCHRIE Conference so unique? It is because the Organizing Committee is solely made up of seven undergraduates from the host school-University of Nevada Las Vegas, Singapore Campus which is UNLV’s first international campus of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.

The papers submitted for this year’s conference was an overwhelming number of 111 papers and after the APacCHRIE board meeting in Bangkok where it was appealed to the board to extend the Call for Papers deadline to deal with this massive influx of papers. The committee is pleased to announce that the Call for Papers deadline extension has been granted by the APacCHRIE Board and changed to Wednesday, 18 February 2009! For the first time ever, APacCHRIE will be organizing a Youth Conference exclusively for tertiary students who are either already pursuing or interested to pursue a course or career in the hospitality or tourism industry. Unlike the ‘traditional’ conference setting, the Inaugural APacCHRIE Youth Conference 09 will feature culinary demonstrations, site visits, team building activities, sight seeing and key note speeches by senior executives from the industry.

The objectives of the Inaugural APacCHRIE Youth Conference 2009 are:

  1. To prepare and equip the Youths with the necessary practical skills and knowledge for their future career in the hospitality industry
  2. To serve as a dynamic platform for Youths to interact, discuss and exchange ideas with current industrial professional leaders and educators
  3. To provide Youths with an insight into the hospitality industry through site visits and keynote speakers
