2009 Summer Faculty Internships Coming Your Way Soon!
Mark your calendars! The International CHRIE staff is busy contacting industry companies in order to arrange the 2009 Faculty Internships. Faculty internships afford ICHRIE members the opportunity to engage with companies to learn first-hand operational knowledge which professors can, in turn, use to impact their classrooms. Here are some thoughts from your colleagues on the benefits of Faculty Internships:
From Claudia Castillo, Assistant Director/Adjunct Instructor, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Florida International University:
“It was an honor and a privilege to take part in a Marriott Faculty Internship experience. This was a very rewarding professional learning opportunity. From the application process and the internship orientation in Washington, DC, to the internship itself, in both the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay and the Marriott Miami Airport, I had the opportunity to learn firsthand about this great company.”
From Dr. Fred DeMicco, ARAMARK Professor of HRIM, the University of Delaware:
“For the faculty member – the industry experience can be akin to a ‘mini sabbatical’ – a chance to recharge and energize your educational skills and sharpen your industry perspective.”
Beginning in March, electronic forms for companies offering faculty internships will be available on the ICHRIE website. These forms are customized for each company to obtain candidate information relative to the specific internship offered. Program details, requirements, and submission deadlines, plus information related to each company’s faculty internship, will be posted as they become available.
