Ralf Burbach

Dr Burbach is the Assistant Head of School and Head of the Hospitality Management Discipline in the School of Hospitality Management and Tourism. He joined Dublin Institute of Technology in June 2011 from Wexford Campus, Institute of Technology Carlow, where he occupied the position of Campus Coordinator. Dr Burbach has lectured in a number of Higher Education Institutes in the Republic of Ireland (Institute of Technology Carlow, National University of Ireland, Galway, Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology) predominantly in the areas of Strategic Human Resource Management, Management of Organisational Change and Industrial Relations.

Prior to his academic career, Dr Burbach worked for thirteen years in the hospitality industry and held managerial posts in Germany, the United Kingdom and Ireland. He has published a number of book chapters and journal articles in the areas of Global Talent Management, electronic Human Resource Management, Human Resource Information Systems and micro-political exchange relationships in multinational corporations. His other research interests include International and Comparative Human Resource Management, HR Metrics, International Hospitality Operations, and Vocational and Dual Education Systems. He regularly reviews papers for leading academic journals. He is currently supervising a number of PhD students in the areas of gratuities, talent management, acculturation of international students and volunteer tourism. Dr Burbach is the Vice President (elect) at the European chapter of the Council on Hospitality Restaurant and Institutional Education as well as the Area Consultant for Ireland.

Dr Burbach is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and a member of the Irish Hospitality Institute. In addition, Dr Burbach serves on the Irish Hospitality Skills Oversight Group which is a nationwide advisory body overseeing the development of human capital in hospitality and tourism to address the skills shortage in this area.
