Rai Shacklock is currently Head of Languages and English Language Teaching at Leeds Metropolitan University. Rai has a Bachelor of Education degree and is a graduate from Stirling University with an MSc in Entrepreneurial Studies. She teaches a range of events related subjects in the UK Centre for Events Management and was one of the founders of the BA (Hons) Event Management programme in 1996.
In September 2001 was appointed a Teacher Fellow in the University. Rai is a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a Fellow of the Institute of Learning and Teaching Academy. In November 2007 Rai was awarded the Chancellors Award for Teaching Excellence and in 2009 the Deans Awards at Leeds Metropolitan University.
In August 2003 Rai was appointed President of International CHRIE and was the first European to hold this position. In September 2003 Rai was awarded an Honorary Doctorate that recognised her leadership and contributions to International CHRIE and the industry at large. In July 2008 at the annual ICHRIE conference she was awarded the John Wiley and Sons Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.
Rai is currently Director of Education for EuroCHRIE
